Honestly, smoothies are one of the yummiest things you can whip up in zero time, and without the need of having to turn on the stove.

They are an easy, healthy, and nutrition-packed breakfast option when you just have five minutes to eat and rush out the house. And easy smoothies are definitely the go-to summer breakfast or mid-day snack in my house.

Along with this Peach and Banana Smoothie and these Mango pineapple smoothies, these triple berry smoothies are summertime favorites.

The Best Triple Berry Smoothie

This is a mixed berry smoothie with no bananas, and just four ingredients! It’s cold, it’s creamy, it’s tangy. For me, it’s sweet and tasty enough for a quick and easy dessert without the added sugar.

This creamy triple berry smoothie is what I make every Sunday as an afternoon treat for my family, when I haven’t thought ahead to make some frozen yogurt bark (another perfect healthy snack when you’re craving berries and yogurt).

No need to keep any weird ingredients on hand. No protein powder or collagen. No kale or spinach in these guys. I mean you can definitely add them if you want…

In fact, the veggies in this kale apple smoothie and this avocado strawberry smoothie are truly not even detectable, and a really easy way to sneak some extra nutrition into a smoothie.

But I’d say this triple berry smoothie is pretty healthy even without it. Full of antioxidants from berries and protein from Greek yogurt, this smoothie is a great way to start the day.

Ingredient Notes for Triple Berry Smoothie

Choose Your Berries

I chose raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries for this triple berry smoothie recipe. Basically, I used a packet of frozen berry mix from the store – but you can use any berries you like! Blackberries would also be great in this mixed berry smoothie.

If you don’t have frozen berries in the freezer – just freeze the fresh berries for at least 30 minutes before you whip up your smoothie. Using frozen fruit means an icy cold smoothie that’s not watered down with ice.

Choose Your Yogurt

The yogurt is used to thicken up the smoothie – and of course make it creamy and delicious. I use plain Greek yogurt, but you can also use vanilla, or any flavored Greek yogurt and omit the honey, since flavored yogurts are usually sweetened.

You can also add a tablespoon or two of almond butter or peanut butter in place of (or with) the yogurt – they’re both great options for some extra protein.

Choose Your Liquid

I use orange juice in this triple berry smoothie because it really complements all the flavors in the smoothie and is a good source of vitamin c. But you can also use apple juice.

If you don’t want to use fruit juice in your smoothie, some almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, or whole milk are also good options for liquids, although the result will be less sweet.

Choose Your Sweetener

I use honey and maple syrup interchangeably in smoothies. Use whichever you prefer, or try agave syrup instead. You can also omit it altogether, the berries and orange juice already add quite a bit of sweetness.

How to Make a Triple Berry Smoothie – The Steps

1. Add ingredients to the blender in the following order: orange juice, Greek yogurt, frozen berries and honey. It’s important to start with the liquids and softer ingredients as this will make life easier on your blender.

Make it your own

Actually there are endless modifications you could make to this basic formula of frozen fruit, yogurt and juice.

Switch up your liquid. Use any juice you like or have on hand. Or add a splash of milk for extra calcium. You could use a flavored yogurt instead of plain as I mentioned above (lemon would be fun!)

Add a banana. I sometimes throw in a ripe banana as an additional ingredient for extra creaminess. So the next time you have a couple of brown bananas and no time to make banana muffins or granola, peel them, put them in a container and freeze. Add them frozen to the blender in your smoothies. You don’t even have to freeze them if you’re using other frozen fruit like we are here.

Add some seeds or nut butter. Adding chia seeds, hemp seeds, or flax seeds is also a great way to add some extra fiber and extra protein. A tablespoon of peanut, almond, or sunflower butter are great too.

Make a smoothie bowl. you can reduce the amount of liquid in your smoothie and turn this into a smoothie bowl! Top it with your favorite nut butter, granola, coconut shavings, fresh fruit, or any other toppings you like!

Tips to Make the Best Triple Berry Smoothie

Use frozen berries. Frozen berries are already cold, so they will help to keep your smoothie cool and refreshing. They also help to create a thicker, creamier texture.

Add the liquid first. This will help to prevent the berries from getting stuck to the bottom of the blender.

Adjust quantities to your liking. If your smoothie is too thick for your liking, add more liquid until it reaches the desired consistency.

Storage Instructions

This triple berry smoothie can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours in an airtight container. After 24 hours, the fruits will start to lose their nutrients and the smoothie may become watery.

  1. Can you do something else other then orange juice that will still taste just as great? I’m sure this would make for a high don’t get sick smoothie, but orange juice is too acidic or me.

    1. When I don’t have orange juice on hand I will often use milk instead, plus a half or whole banana. This adds the necessary liquid and sweetness without the acidity. If you want to skip the banana, you can also just use milk and add a little extra honey if you want it sweeter 🙂
