I love avocados. And strawberries. And while my kids might not be the biggest fan of avocados, I know if I combine them with fruit in the form of a creamy smoothie – they will gobble it up. That’s a genius tip I picked up from my super mom BFF!

The last time I put kale in this kale apple smoothie and it went unnoticed, I got pretty excited. And while I absolutely love a good fruity peach banana smoothie, or a creamy mango pineapple smoothie, or a juicy triple berry Greek yogurt smoothie, I am always thrilled when I can get more fresh veggies into my kids, even if I have to sneak them in!

We love smoothies so much in this house, so, of course, with summer approaching, I just had to make an avocado strawberry smoothie.

Why You’ll Love This Avocado Strawberry Smoothie

This avocado strawberry smoothie is perfect for a quick and easy breakfast, a post-workout snack, or a refreshing mid-day pick-me-up.

Plus, it’s packed with healthy fats, protein, and fiber to keep you feeling satisfied and energized all day long. Both strawberries and avocados pack a good deal of vitamins and minerals, so together, they’re an unbeatable duo.

And, while you might make this for the first time for its health benefits – you’ll come back for the taste. It’s perfectly creamy and delicious with the avocados bringing the richness and the strawberries bringing the sweetness.

While a lot of smoothies include bananas for extra sweetness and creaminess, this smoothie gets a creamy, velvety texture from the avocado and a little extra sweetness from orange juice.

Avocado Strawberry Smoothie Benefits

There’s no denying that avocado strawberry smoothie is a real treat for the taste buds, but did you know it also comes loaded with some fantastic health benefits?

Avocados are jam-packed with healthy fats, fiber, and essential nutrients like potassium, vitamin C, K, and B6. These heart-healthy fruits are linked with managing weight, improving cardiovascular health, and reducing inflammation.

On the other hand, strawberries are full of antioxidants, vitamin C, and fiber that help boost the immune system and keep your skin looking radiant.

When you blend these two superfoods together, you get a creamy, delicious smoothie that’s chock-full of nutrients to keep you feeling nourished and satisfied all day long.

Ingredient Notes

Strawberries

Use frozen strawberries to give your smoothie a thick and creamy texture, and ensure that it is cold.

You can use fresh strawberries if you prefer, but your smoothie may be thinner. If you use fresh strawberries, you may want to add a cup of ice.

Milk

Every smoothie recipe needs a liquid (or two) and milk is going to bring the creamy flavor and texture that makes it super delicious. It is also a good source of healthy fats and will make your smoothie more filling.

I usually use whole milk but if you want to avoid dairy, you can go for almond milk, oat milk, or just any kind of milk you prefer!

Yogurt

Yogurt is going add even more creaminess and a little tang to your avocado strawberry smoothie. Use plain yogurt, Greek yogurt, or a dairy-free yogurt alternative like coconut or soy yogurt.

I sometimes use vanilla yogurt if that’s what I have, but skip the honey in that case since flavored yogurts are usually sweetened.

Avocado

Avocados are known for their creamy texture, and they’re going to add a velvety consistency to the smoothie.

Make sure your avocado is ripe and soft to the touch. A ripe avocado should give slightly when pressed. If your avocado is not ripe, leave it out on the counter for a few days until it softens.

By the way – if you’re not big on avocados – this avocado strawberry smoothie recipe is still safe to try. You will hardly taste the avocados in it.

Honey

Since this is an avocado strawberry smoothie without banana – you’re gonna need a sweetener. Use honey to sweeten your smoothie to taste. You can also use maple syrup or agave nectar for vegan options.

Orange Juice

Freshly squeezed orange juice will give your smoothie an extra bright flavor, but I often go the store bought route, honestly. I like to keep smoothie prep to a minimum.

Step-by-step Instructions

  1. Add milk and orange juice to the blender followed by the yogurt, avocado, strawberry, and honey. Adding the liquids first will help your smoothie blend more smoothly.

Tips for the Best Avocado Strawberry Smoothie

Use ripe ingredients: For the best flavor and texture, make sure your avocados and strawberries are fully ripe. Ripe avocados should be slightly soft to the touch and have a dark green or black skin, while ripe strawberries should be bright red and fragrant.

Use frozen strawberries: Frozen strawberries make for a thicker, creamier smoothie. If you don’t have frozen strawberries on hand, you can use fresh ones and add some ice to the blender.

Use plain yogurt: Plain yogurt is a great way to add creaminess to your smoothie without adding extra sugar. You can use Greek yogurt or regular yogurt, depending on your preference.

Adjust the sweetness: The sweetness of your avocado strawberry smoothie will depend on the ripeness of your fruit and your personal preference. If you like your smoothie sweeter, you can add more honey or increase the orange juice, reducing the milk to compensate.

Blend thoroughly: To get a smooth, creamy texture, blend your ingredients on high speed for 30-60 seconds. Stop and scrape down the sides of the blender if necessary, and blend again until everything is fully combined.

Recipe Variations

The best part about this smoothie with avocado and strawberry is that it is super versatile!

Add protein: For a more filling smoothie, add a scoop of your favorite protein powder or a tablespoon of nut butter. This will help keep you satisfied and energized throughout the day.

Swap honey for maple syrup: If you prefer a vegan sweetener or want to change up the flavor, you can swap the honey for maple syrup. It adds a rich, earthy sweetness that pairs well with the avocado and strawberries.

Add spices: To add some warmth and depth to the smoothie, try adding a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger. These spices not only add flavor, but also have their own health benefits.

Garnish with toppings: To make your smoothie more fun and visually appealing, garnish it with toppings like chia seeds, coconut flakes, or sliced fruit. This adds texture and makes the smoothie feel like more of a treat.

Storage & Make-Ahead Instructions

This avocado strawberry smoothie is best enjoyed fresh, but you can also store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Before serving, give it a good stir or shake to remix any ingredients that may have settled.

Can I make this smoothie without honey?

Yes, you can skip the honey if you prefer a less sweet smoothie. The natural sweetness of the strawberries should be enough for most people.

How can I make this avocado strawberry smoothie vegan?

This avocado strawberry smoothie recipe is already vegetarian, but you can easily make it vegan by substituting the milk and yogurt with plant-based alternatives. Try using almond milk or coconut milk, and coconut yogurt or soy yogurt instead of dairy yogurt. Use a vegan sweetener like maple or agave syrup.

What does adding avocado to smoothies do?

Adding avocado to your smoothie can enhance its texture and give it a creamier, velvety texture. Avocados are also high in healthy fats and fiber, which can help keep you full and satisfied for longer.

Notes

*Note: You can use whole frozen strawberries instead of sliced, but your blender may have a harder time processing them. Letting them thaw for a few minutes before using will help. You can also use fresh strawberries instead of frozen, but your smoothie will be less cold. A cup of ice may be added in this case.
