Confession: I’m officially obsessed with overnight oats. I’ve been making them every week for a couple of months now and I’m just gonna say it, some mornings the thought of that little jar of goodness is my main motivation for getting out of bed (it’s January guys).
But also, when mornings get busy (and let’s face it, they always do), having a ready-to-go breakfast that feels like a little treat is a total game-changer. These almond chocolate overnight oats are just that.
They’re creamy, chocolatey, and packed with nutrients to keep you full and happy until lunchtime. Best of all, they take just minutes to prep for the week the night before, making them perfect for busy schedules. If you’re into meal prep, this one’s a winner – you get all the convenience without spending ages in the kitchen.
Breakfast can be tricky to figure out, especially when time is short or energy is low. Whether it’s these almond chocolate overnight oats, these blueberry overnight oats with a fruity twist, or even warm options like caramelized banana pecan oatmeal for slower mornings, oats are a lifesaver. This almond chocolate version is perfect for when you’re craving something indulgent but still want to keep things healthy.

It’s the ultimate combo of nutty almond butter, rich cocoa, and hearty oats, naturally sweetened with a touch of maple syrup.
Lots of overnight oats recipes also add chia seeds to help thicken them and for an extra boost of nutrition, but I find in this recipe, the oats already thicken nicely with the nut butter and Greek yogurt. Fee free to add a tablespoon of chia seeds if you like though!

What You’ll Love About These Overnight Oats
- All the magic happens in one jar or bowl, and there’s no cooking required. Just mix, chill, and enjoy!
- Rich cocoa and creamy almond butter make this feel indulgent while still being healthy.
- Not into almond butter? Swap it for peanut butter or any other nut/seed butter. I do it all the time.
Ingredient Notes

Old-fashioned rolled oats
The base of every great overnight oats recipe. They soak up all the flavor and turn perfectly creamy.
Avoid quick oats as they tend to get mushy, and steel cut oats don’t work well since they don’t soften enough overnight.
Almond butter
The almond butter adds richness, nuttiness, and a boost of healthy fats. If you don’t have almond butter, any nut butter like peanut butter or cashew butter works just as well. For a nut-free version, sunflower seed butter is a great option!
Almond milk
I love using almond milk for the extra almond flavor in these almond chocolate overnight oats, but any milk will work! Non-dairy milks like oat milk, soy milk, cashew milk, or even regular dairy milk are all great substitutes. If you want a richer texture, coconut milk is also a delicious option.
Cocoa powder
This is what gives these oats that amazing rich chocolate flavor. Use unsweetened cocoa powder for a deep, rich flavor.
If you want something extra special, Dutch-processed cocoa powder adds a slightly smoother and more intense chocolate taste.
Maple syrup
A natural way to sweeten the oats without adding refined sugar. You can adjust the amount based on your sweetness preference or swap it for honey or agave syrup. If you want to keep the sugar content very low, you can skip it or use a sugar-free sweetener.
Vanilla Extract
Just a splash makes a big difference, adding depth and flavor to the oats. If you’re out of vanilla, you can leave it out or experiment with almond extract for even more almond flavor!
Vanilla Greek Yogurt
This adds creaminess and a boost of protein to your overnight oats, making them extra satisfying. You can use either vanilla flavored yogurt or plain, it’s up to you. If you prefer a dairy-free option or want to keep this recipe vegan, coconut yogurt or almond-based yogurt works just as well.
You can use plain regular yogurt instead of Greek yogurt, but keep in mind it will make the oats slightly less thick.

Step By Step Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the almond milk, Greek yogurt, maple syrup, cocoa powder, almond butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.

- Add the oats and a pinch of salt, stirring thoroughly to mix. Allow the mixture to sit for 5-10 minutes so it can thicken slightly. I just find this makes it easier to spoon into the jars.

- Divide the mixture evenly into four 8-ounce mason jars or airtight containers. Seal them with lids and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

- When ready to serve, optionally top with a dollop of yogurt, sliced almonds, and a drizzle of almond butter.

Topping Suggestions
- Add sweetness and a burst of freshness with fresh fruit sliced bananas, raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries.
- Sprinkle on sliced almonds, chopped pecans, or walnuts for added texture and healthy fats.
- A few dark chocolate chips, cacao nibs, or a drizzle of melted chocolate can make it feel like dessert.
- Add a handful of granola for an extra crunch and some contrast to the creamy oats.
- Sprinkle shredded or toasted coconut for a tropical twist.
Storage Instructions
Store your almond chocolate overnight oats in airtight containers or mason jars in the fridge. They’ll stay fresh for up to 5 days, which is why they’re perfect for meal prep.
My preferred containers for overnight oats are these wide-mouth 8 oz mason jars. The wide mouths make it much easier to get your spoon in there and eat the oats straight from the jar. However any container with a tight lid will work!
If you’ve added toppings like fresh fruit or yogurt, it’s best to add those just before serving to keep everything fresh and prevent sogginess. For toppings like sliced almonds or chocolate chips, you can add them ahead of time if you prefer.

If your almond chocolate overnight oats thicken too much after sitting in the fridge, simply stir in a splash of almond milk before serving to loosen them up.
